Nestled in an industrial unit in St Werburgh’s, Extract Coffee Roasters do exactly what you think they would: roast some amazing coffee.
Their coffee tastes even better when you realise the amount of good their product supports. Extract Coffee approached Avent Interiors with a requirement for a warehouse fit out atop a preinstalled mezzanine floor within their established industrial unit.
Client Background and Challenges
As mentioned above, Extract Coffee Roasters products help support coffee growers but also local communities and the planet. The main challenge which Extract Coffee faced at their unit was the lack of dedicated space to host meetings, entertain guests and conduct interviews. Avent Interiors were approached to tackle this challenge due to their track record of helping similar clients fit out office spaces in warehouse settings.
Project Goals and Requirements
The client’s vision for the space included the construction of three distinct rooms: foremost, a refined meeting room designed to serve as an area utilised for managerial meetings, interviews, and welcoming visitors. Secondly, an expansive function area fashioned to accommodate an array of specialised workshops, including the artistry of barista training. Thirdly, a shop/entertainment area which would feature windows overlooking the production facility.
Solution and Implementation
Avent approached this project with the idea of constructing these rooms utilising a mix of solid partitioning and Crittall glazed partitioning used when the rooms faced each other to make the space seem bigger and more inviting. Other services that were undertaken by Avent Interiors to complete the fit out included suspended ceilings, flooring works and electrical works. The electrical work mainly concerned the lighting of both areas, with a unique feature being the ‘movie-style lighting’ deployed in the entertainment area.
There were 2 distinct challenges facing Avent Interiors during this project. The first regarded the aesthetic, which had to match the pre-existing industrial style Extract Coffee wanted. This was overcome by scouring suppliers for finishes which Avent Interiors thought suited the industrial style of the building and proposing these to Extract Coffee.
The second issue was the fact Extract Coffee required a physical barrier between Avent Interiors active site and the coffee production side of the unit. The unit was very high, and the barrier needed to span the width of the unit, which was an especially challenging undertaking. However, with troubleshooting and planning, Avent Interiors were able to install the barrier and proceed with the project.
Results
Upon completion of the project, Extract Coffee were extremely pleased with the function and office/meeting rooms provided. These new areas were the perfect setting for their required functions, and the aesthetic provided was perfectly cohesive with the established style. The internal windows make for a brilliant talking point when entertaining visitors. They allow guests to gaze over the coffee production facility when in the function room.
