Introduction
Avent Interiors were approached by the government agency Forestry England to quote for an office partitions project which would be taking place at their location in Bristol. The project consisted of both the removal and installation of several acoustic partitions to promote improved sound control and allow for the space to be more functional. The overall objective of the project was to help create a more productive office environment whilst maintaining a balance between privacy and the open office environment.
Client Background and Challenges
Forestry England is a government body whose main concerns include the shaping and maintaining of the future of England’s forests. Offering sustainable solutions for public woodland management, Forestry England was formed as an enterprise in 1996. Foresty England faced a set of challenges that were extremely familiar to Avent Interiors. This set of challenges included partitions that were outdated and no longer served their purpose, which was therefore having a negative effect on productivity. The client was seeking a solution which not only addressed the issues quickly, within budget and schedule, but also aligned with their values as a company. Avent Interior were chosen after the quotation due to their proven track record of delivering partitioning projects for other clients.
Project Goals and Requirements
The overall goal of the project was to dismantle and remove the old partition system and construct a modern acoustic partitioning system which would improve sound insulation between different office spaces. Another aspect of the project was the need for sustainability, effective noise control and maintaining a visually appealing environment to keep up with the clients’ values. Key requirements for the projects included the installation of solid partitions with Soundbloc plasterboard, acoustic laminate glass, and custom doors with vision panels. Additionally, the client requested the relocation of electrical controls and the installation of sockets and data points.
Solution and Implementation
The Avent Interiors team began by dismantling and disposing of approximately 7 linear metres of the existing partitioning which was no longer fit for purpose. To ensure the office walls were left in good condition, Avent Interiors repaired the wall surfaces with a mix of filler and caulk, repainted the affected areas, and replaced any damaged ceiling tiles to make it look as though nothing had been changed.
The new partitioning system was designed by Avent Interiors to enhance acoustic performance. Avent Interiors installed approximately 10.2 linear meters of 100mm acoustic solid partitions, constructed with 50mm metal studs, two layers of 12.5mm Soundbloc plasterboard, and 50mm slab insulation. These partitions helped to significantly reduce sound travel between rooms, in turn helping to create quieter and more focused workspaces. Additionally, Avent Interiors installed 7.7 linear meters of single-glazed 12.8mm acoustic laminate glass with polished edges, creating transparent divisions while maintaining sound insulation.
Two full-height doors were also installed, featuring vision panels and high-quality brushed satin stainless steel ironmongery. One door also featured a spyhole to allow external visibility. The doors were finished in oak, adding a natural, refined touch to the workspace. A 1200mm manifestation frosting band was added to the glass partitions for privacy and safety.
The project was rounded out with the installation of electrical work, including installing double sockets and double data sockets in two rooms, all neatly cabled through the office partition walls.
Results and Client Feedback
The new partition system which Avent Interiors had designed and installed achieved Forestry England’s goals of better sound insulation, improved office aesthetics, and optimised functionality of the area. The use of acoustic glass and Soundbloc office partitions significantly reduced noise levels between rooms, creating a more productive working environment.
