Introduction
Avent Interiors were approached by Ethical Power to complete an office fit out project at their recently acquired premises in the Stoke Gifford region of Bristol. The client, Ethical Power, is a vertically integrated renewable energy company whose end-to-end capabilities set the standards for the development, design, construction and operations of green energy infrastructure projects. The main goal of the project was for Avent Interiors to take Ethical Power’s newly acquired shell unit and transform it into a fully fitted-out office space which was ready for the client to move into.
Client Background and Challenges
With multiple office spaces spanning several different countries, Ethical Power were used to office fit outs and came to Avent Interiors knowing exactly what they were after. The client wanted their new office space to make the best use of available space. To facilitate this request, partitioning would be utilised to section off certain areas. These areas would become private offices and meeting rooms which span the length of the space. Avent Inteiors planned to leave the rest of the space open-plan to invite collaboration between different teams.
The need to disassemble pre-existing structures and determine whether it would be feasible to reuse some of their components were among the difficulties that arose during the project. Furthermore, careful planning was needed to coordinate the installation of HVAC systems, including external pipework, in a constrained area.
Project Goals and Requirements
Improving the usability and aesthetic appeal of the office space were the project’s main objectives. The managing director’s office needed to be updated and soundproofed; a new office/meeting space with a unique front elevation needed to be established, and a partition between the office and kitchen areas needed to be installed. The intricate jobs included everything from tearing down old buildings to putting in new insulation wall linings, heating systems, and windows. All these smaller components would merge together to leave Ethical Power with a modern, productive, and impressive office fit out.
Solution and Implementation
Ethical Power and Avent Interiors worked closely together on the project. A thorough understanding of Ethical Power’s goals and specifications was required by Avent Interiors and gained by frequent site meetings.
In order to achieve the best possible soundproofing for the Managing Director’s office, Avent Interiors constructed a 100mm solid partition using dB plasterboard metal studs and insulation. To solve acoustic issues and preserve a sleek appearance, frameless glazing with acoustic laminate was added. A full-height door and a similar partition design created a professional yet welcoming ambiance in the office/meeting space.
The partition between the kitchen and office blended in appropriately with the building’s existing design. In order to maintain a unified design throughout the room, Avent Interiors used 100mm partitioning with a matching blue laminate finish.
The furniture supplied and installed by Avent Interiors was functional, aesthetically pleasing and premium quality. The colours chosen (blues and greens) fit with Ethical Power’s brand and subtly linked their office space to their line of work. One standout piece was the drawing table which was positioned near the main thoroughfare, which invited collaboration and standing meetings.
Results and Client Feedback
Once the project was completed, Ethical Power had an office space which was ready to move into. The space plan created by Avent Interiors balanced open-plan areas with meeting rooms and private offices. The choice of glazed partitions allowed natural light to fill the entirety of the office space, boosting employee wellness. The client has reported overwhelmingly positive reactions from both employees and visitors alike.
