Introduction
People for Research are a leading agency in the field of participant recruitment, particularly for research studies. They came to Avent Interiors wanting to fit out their premises in Bristol in collaboration with an interior designer they had appointed. The main goal of the project was to create an open, functional workspace which featured updated lighting, flooring and partitioning to meet the clients’ needs.
Client Background and Challenges
People for Research assists organisations in finding suitable participants for market research and usability studies. With their existing office layout, the client faced challenges including outdated lighting, deteriorated partitions, and inefficient room layouts that hindered communication and collaboration. To achieve their vision of a refreshed and practical workspace, People for Research approached Avent Interiors due to their reputation for high-quality, detail-oriented fit out projects.
Project Goals and Requirements
The main goals of this project were to modernise the office layout, improve lighting, and create an efficient meeting room for both external and internal conversations. Key requirements included the removal of outdated lighting and individual room switches, updating partitions to a higher acoustic standard, and installing a fresh commercial-grade carpet. These upgrades had to align with safety and workplace regulations while providing an aesthetically pleasing environment suitable for both team collaboration and client meetings.
Solution and Implementation
Avent Interiors approach began with a thorough dismantling of approximately 43 linear metres of full-height partitions, clearing the way for an open-plan layout.
Ceiling Repairs: Following partition removal, the suspended ceiling grids were repaired and damaged tiles replaced, ensuring a seamless and refreshed look.
Lighting: The outdated Cat 2 lighting was removed, and Avent Interiors reconfigured the electrical setup to suit the open layout. Modern 600mm x 600mm LED lighting panels were installed throughout, improving energy efficiency and providing balanced illumination across the workspace.
Partition Works: Avent Interiors then installed the solid partitions to create a dedicated meeting room. This included aluminium profiles in grey RAL 9006 for a sleek look, with double-glazed panels featuring integral tilt blinds to enhance privacy. The single oak veneer door set was fitted with brushed satin ironmongery, adding both function and aesthetic appeal.
Painting and Finishing: All walls and newly installed partitions were given a full white paint finish, along with timber windowsills and the boiler cupboard door and frame. To complete the look, aluminium clip-on skirting was installed.
Flooring: The existing laminated flooring was removed, and the subfloor prepared for the installation of commercial-grade carpet tiles. A primary colour was selected for the main office, with a second colour to define specific areas, bringing a contemporary feel to the space.
Results and Client Feedback
The completed project transformed the client’s workspace. Avent Interiors created a lighter, open environment that better suited the needs of People for Research. The upgraded lighting had a positive effect on energy consumption, while the acoustic partitions improved acoustics and privacy in the meeting room.
